Sneaker Exchange Cape Town

[URIS id=732]

Sneaker Exchange literally graced Cape Town shores on the 30th April 2017, located at the Lookout, the venue was a stone throw away from the V&A Waterfront. The weather on the day was absolutely superb after a seemingly overcast day before. Temperatures reached the 30 degree mark, with the venue being well suited for the occasion.

Upon arrival, the venue was packed with a line stretching a decent 6 metres from the entrance. It was clear, the biggest sneaker event was about to go down with attendees and vendors lacing up their finest kicks, either to show them off or to sell. If you not in the know, Sneaker Exchange is an event conceptualised by one of Cape Town’s most prominent Sneakerheads, Zaid Osman.

“The idea of the event is to provide a platform for individuals to buy, sell or barter sneakers and to share the love of a culture few people know about or understand” says founder, Zaid Osman.

Entering the venue, we made it our mission to grab something to eat. Keeping it real, we opted for a genuine kaapse boerie, straight off the top shelf, with no surprise the catering personal were rocking some Retro Jordan 12s and 14s to name a few.

Food in hand, one unmistaken voice broke through the crowd, it was JJ Fresh as MC keeping the crowd entertained and informed. Performances and features throughout the day included the likes of Ricky Rick, Youngsta, Anatii, Palmtree Paradise, Major League, Capital, Lord Veezus and Dunn Kidda. Special guests at the event were Amsterdam-based clothing label, Daily Paper.

Making our way through the venue we could not help but stop and stare at the view off the balcony. Situated above the water, we caught a glimpse of exotic yachts anchored in the bay, making you feel as though you’re at a VIP only sneaker event.

The event itself featured many relatable aspects of sneaker culture, which was something we appreciated. From clothing vendors to sneaker customisers and artists, it was all there. The next leg of Sneaker Exchange will be taking place on the 6th of May 2017 in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.
